Introduction

  FreeCell Solitaire Game

Step into the timeless world of FreeCell Solitaire, one of the most beloved single-player card games in history, and experience our thoughtfully designed version that blends classic gameplay with modern convenience.

The origins of FreeCell stretch back further than many realize. It’s believed that the very first computerized version appeared on the PLATO system in 1978 — a pioneering piece of technology in its own right. This early adaptation caught the attention of a Microsoft developer, who later created a Windows version. While FreeCell remained a hidden gem for years, it burst into global popularity when it was included as part of Windows 95, delighting millions of players. In fact, its earliest Windows release came bundled with Win32s, intended as a test for the 32-bit “thunking layer” (yes, a blast from the tech past for the real computer history buffs).

Over the decades, FreeCell has been adapted for countless platforms, but our version was created with one goal in mind: to deliver the full, authentic experience in a sleek, portable package optimized for today’s devices. We’ve preserved all the features that fans expect — including hints, power moves, and the ever-essential undo button (upper right corner of the title bar) — while adding smart improvements for mobile play.

For example, there’s no need to manually select every single card when moving stacks: if you drag an entire column, only the legal cards will move, while the rest automatically return to their place. Whenever possible, cards are moved to the foundation automatically to save you time. We’ve also reimagined scoring: instead of traditional point systems, your performance is measured by the number of moves — with the best games having the lowest score possible.

  How to Play

Only the top card of each tableau column can be played at any time.

You can move a card to a free cell, a foundation pile, or another tableau column (provided the move follows the rules).

Tableau columns must be built in descending order, alternating red and black suits.

Any single card can be placed into an empty tableau slot.

To move a sequence of cards, you’ll need enough empty free cells and/or tableau spaces to accommodate the move. Simply drag the stack you want, and the game will automatically figure out what’s possible.

The objective is to build all four foundation piles from Ace to King in the same suit. Complete all four, and you win!

And remember — if you’re stuck, you have tools to help:

Hints for a quick nudge in the right direction.

Undo to backtrack and try a different approach.

Menu options to start a fresh game instantly.

Whether you’re a FreeCell veteran who played it on Windows 95 or a new player discovering it for the first time, our game captures the spirit of the original while offering smoother, more intuitive play.
